CentrePort Launches New Website to Better Connect with Customers

2 min read

CentrePort Wellington, New Zealand's busiest port by ship movements, has launched its new website. Designed and built by Somar Digital, the website aims to create a best-practice platform that offers information on facilities and services, as well as shipping movement and cargo tracking.

As part of the website redesign, Somar Digital completed a UX Research phase to better understand the users of the previous website and inform the redesign through their findings. The research included one-on-one interviews to capture deeper insights into specific customer segments or scenarios. The findings helped to uncover the user's interaction with the previous site, what was missing, and what could be improved. This information was used to tailor the new site to both external users and CentrePort employees, ensuring it was user-friendly for all.

The new website(external link) offers a Centric Web Portal, which provides a detailed and up-to-date way to view shipping, track cargo, or pre-advise export containers. Customers can also use the "Track My Ship" feature to search for a particular ship or see what's in berth. Furthermore, the website provides real-time information about harbour weather conditions, including wind speed and tide levels, through the Wellington Harbour Weather feature.

With the new website, CentrePort aims to better connect with its customers and communicate its story and the revamped organisation and structure of the new site (information architecture) is designed to make it easier for users to find what they are looking for.

Somar Digital CEO Fiona Reid says, “We are proud to have partnered with CentrePort on this project and believe the new website will be an invaluable tool in supporting their customers' businesses."
