NZ Digital Government Marketplace - Somar’s role

In April 2020 the New Zealand Government reported a data incident involving the Digital Government Marketplace, an online procurement platform for products and services.

Marketplace has two parts:

  • a website hosted on the government’s Common Web Platform that publishes information and runs the application process for users, and

  • a portal platform that manages service catalogues and other functionality.

The data incident relates to an issue with the portal platform and not the website.

As one of the supplier partners to Marketplace, Somar was responsible for building the website – importantly the part that did not experience the outlined security breach.

Somar continues to work with the New Zealand Government (Department of Internal Affairs) to build and improve the Marketplace online platform, making it easier for government agencies and suppliers to work together.

No. The data incident relates to an issue with the portal platform and not the website.

What has Somar’s involvement been since the data incident?
